Why Worksite Wellness?
In most companies, 15% of the employees are responsible for 85% of the healthcare costs. Researchers have estimated that preventable illness makes up approximately 70% of the burden of illness and the associated costs. Furthermore, 75% of the $1.8 trillion the U.S. spends annually on healthcare is spent on the treatment of Americans with chronic diseases. Yet only 3% of annual healthcare spending in the U.S. goes toward the prevention of chronic diseases. Typically, most high-risk individuals don’t volunteer for health improvement programs. The goal of helping this high-risk population reduce their risk of disease and improve their health must be developed through specific strategies that encourages participation in worksite health promotion programs.
